WARNING: Shopify Users Beware of Fraudulent Account Attacks!

Originally on the fence about sharing this experience, but I felt guilty for gating. 🤦🏽‍♂️

Maybe it’s because I was annoyed and didn’t want to give off the impression of being aggressive or off-putting.

But now that I’ve thought this through, I feel inclined to share my learnings.

If you wake up to a huge uptick in traffic to your Shopify store and your focus is on organic traffic, you may want to investigate it thoroughly.

Here’s what happened to me:

↳Surge in Traffic: I experienced a huge surge on Memorial Day weekend

↳DNS notifications: I started receiving daily ‘advanced email security’ quarantine lists from my host

↳Mass Account Creation: 10k+ customer profiles were created on my Shopify account

↳Traffic Source: Shopify and Google Analytics showed a direct traffic increase of 18%

↳Top Landing Pages: /account/register

↳Top location: United States

↳Top Device: Desktop
